Subject: School Open as Normal - Friday 26th June

Following the red weather alert and period of extreme heat, I am writing to confirm that the school will be open as normal tomorrow, Friday 26th June.

Although the red weather alert will be lifted tonight and temperatures are set to reduce tomorrow, please be mindful that the buildings and classrooms may still feel warm due to residual heat. To help improve conditions, windows and doors will be opened early to support ventilation across classrooms and shared areas.

As this period of extreme heat ends, we will continue to implement several on-site adjustments, where necessary. These include but are not limited to reduced access to exposed areas of the school site such as the field and our sports facilities, no vigorous recreational sports activities at breaktime/lunchtime and a reduced hot food menu in the canteen to reduce additional heat in these areas. There will also be changes to PE lessons to ensure safe activities.

At this time, we strongly encourage all pupils to:

  • Bring a refillable water bottle so they can stay well hydrated throughout the day.
  • Wear hats or caps to provide shade when outdoors.
  • Remain in shaded areas during breaktime and lunchtime - staff will actively direct pupils to reduce exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Apply suncream before school and, where possible, bring some with them to reapply during the day.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep all pupils safe during this period of extreme weather. We look forward to seeing pupils back at school tomorrow.
